Hello and welcome to my website and blog.
The first thing you should know about me is that I'm passionate about the outdoors!
For as long as I can remember, some of my happiest memories have involved being outside. Mountain Biking, Hiking, Cycling, Kayaking and Canoeing - I'm happiest when I'm out in the fresh air and I am lucky enough to live near several of the most beautiful places in the UK (possibly the world).
The second thins you should know about me is that I love being creative!
But, whilst I enjoy being creative, I have a couple of issues which tend to stand in my way:
- I love spending time outside, not stuck indoors in a studio or workshop
- I love art, but I'm really no good at drawing or painting
- I love music, but can't play anything well
- I love poetry, but being mildly dyslexic I tend to struggle with creative writing (but I really enjoy writing the blog)!
However, when I picked-up my camera and decided to start taking it out on walks with me, I found the creative outlet that I had been looking for.
Now I've been photographing on and off for many years - I started on film and learnt to process black and whites in a dark room, before making the switch to a point-and-shoot digital camera in the early 2000's. After a bit of a break (to raise my family) I got back into photography in 2015 when I was given a DSLR as a wedding present.........and I have never looked back!
I predominantly shoot landscapes and outdoors photography (it's a great excuse to get outside) and, as a resident of Carlisle, I am quite literally spoiled for choice of great locations that are really easy to access.
I firmly believe that learning is life-long and I hope that my blog will become a personal archive of the lessons I've learnt and my progression as a photographer - something I can look back on in the future.
I also have a YouTube channel where I film my outdoor photography adventures, many of which also appear on my blog, so if you like YouTube, please head over and subscribe to my channel by clicking on the icon below.
So please do come and join me through my photography adventure; the ups, the downs and all the in-betweens - subscribe to my blog here, join my YouTube community and check out my Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages.
